Extended warranty for a used car

Auto

Hi all. Im buying a 2023 Mazda CPO cx50 with 60K kms on it. The comprehensive warranty coverage has run out but it has powertrain warranty for 3 more years.

The dealers quotes for comprehensive warranty seem like a lot and I’m thinking about declining although I’m not really in the position right now to pay for a huge repair if something happens. Mind you this time next year I’ll be in a much better spot financially so I’m wondering if I should just buy 18 months coverage or is that stupid? Still seems crazy expensive because hopefully I don’t have any major issues that soon anyway.

They quoted me:
$2600/unlimited kms for 1.5 year of Mazda MAP
$3000/60K kms for 2.5 years Mazda MAP
And then there’s a third party one (SymTech)
$2900/60K kms for 3 years
$2500/40K kms for 2 years
$2000/30K kms for 1.5 years
$1600/20K kms for 1 year

All these prices are with him reducing his original quotes by $300 too after I said it seems high.

The vehicle is getting brand new tires, front/rear brakes and a few other things replaced before I pick it up. I know wear and tear of those aren’t covered by warranty anyways but just noting. Appreciate any opinions on the situation and thanks in advance!!
