How does anyone get over trauma, knowing that the person is the same and still alive/out of jail?
Sorry for the incredibly blunt opener, but I really just have no idea. When someone who's done such awful things to you "gets away with it", doesn't change, lives a normal life and would probably proceed to make your life worse again if they ever saw you... how are you supposed to move on?
I used to think everything healed with time, but it's hard to actually register anything as being actually "over" and healable, when I know for a fact that these people would continue to give me a horrible time if I ever encountered them again. My "paranoia" just feels justified, because without it these people would never actually leave me alone. And I can tell myself they're wrong etc, but there are limits to what you can keep from affecting you.
I guess I'm just curious about how y'all have delt with it if you've been through something similar. For context, I've developed really hardcore trauma-based OCD that keeps me from interacting with any item I associate with these people, but that range is so broad that it's hard to actually engage with 90% of what I own on a daily basis. I don't really know how to let it go though, because at this point if I do it feels like there will be no barrier between what I experienced/experience and myself.
