Thinking about bon
ive always been team jack but like ive been doing some thinking bout it. if jack is bon something obviously would need to happen to him for him to go from trauma masking but generally loving father to murder hobo bunny man. I feel as though this last episode actually does setup this undefined incident. in this episode we see a couple things. firstly we see jack mostly quiet for the first few scenes he is in. he's looking down. his eyes seem lost like a thousand yard stare and generally speaking his facial features are obscured. this is jack unmasked visibly being a traumatized man with 2 members of his family gone from his life. this comes to ahead when he's asked if he wants to press charges he says no and for a bit his face becomes less obscured. he starts talking to his family trying his best to be supportive towards his surviving daughter and his grieving mentally ill wife. he's not the best at it but he's trying really hard to support them because its what's needed of him in his mind he must fulfill this supportive role and be strong for others putting his feelings below everyone else's. he's faking this strong dad social role. saying things like how he's strong enough and when Sophie begins to question this saying "that doesn't seem ri- he cuts her off and reasserts his statement that he is in-fact strong. but when he talks about grief his face becomes shadowed and partly obscured. this represents his true self that he's hiding from others. the hurt and the anger and the grief and the pain. this is the jack who calls Felix demanding his children. this is the Jack Walten he hides away from others. his true self. every time jack is obscured that's the real dude. every time his face is well lit he's masking. and the more he masks for his family the more he hurts internally. the more he bundles up his feelings to support his family as the strong father figure he feels he has to be the more the burden takes its tole on his mind. this comes ahead the day he leaves his family to do his "important work" the day he disappears. he's avoidant greeting his family members saying good morning to his dead children. the way he comforts Sophie. it feels like a goodbye like he's not coming back to this life. when he talks to rose its obvious he's lying to her and being avoidant with his intentions . he wants out as fast as possible and with the least pain and information given . now I'm going into speculation here but I think he snapped. the pressure to pretend to be ok for the sake of his family to play his role which isn't working because his family is still falling apart from the trauma they've endured has taken its tole on his mind and he cant do it anymore so he has a plan. it likely started as a idea in his head when he was asked if he would press charges. he said no. not because he wants to protect Felix but because part of him at that point the part under the mask. the part that is obscured in shadow. that part wants to kill Felix himself. so he goes out that day and doesn't come back. he calls his wife one last time to say sorry. sorry for how he was how he pretended and the rage that was underneath that has likely led to his death. he is ashamed of himself he's ashamed that he failed and how he's ashamed that that rage underneath that trauma under the mask finally came to ahead and now he cant be there for his family anymore he cant put the mask back on and be there for his family. and now the character arch that's been playing out in the background is complete. the silent suffering of a man trapped in his toxic masculinity to the point where he feels expressing his pain is failing his family. Jack Walten is not a mentally stable confident masculine father figure who only wishes to support and love his family through this time of pain. that's the mask of a man he pretends to be. the real Jack Walten is just as ill as rosemary. just as traumatized. just as hurt. and when the mask slips we see it. the mask consumes him till he cant wear it anymore till he cant give half hearted emotional advice for healing anymore. this is where we last see jack for a while in this episode until rose has her dream. we see jack hunting in the dream a common motif throughout the episode. I believe this motif is a physical representation of that toxic masculinity. hunting hurting living things taking joy in it. he pretends to like it. he tells Sophie he loves the drawing of him hunting earlier on even though you can read on his face he hates it. you see more drawings of jack hunting through out the episode seemingly also drawn by Sophie. the dream sequence involves rose wandering the forest chasing after jack whilst hurt animal imagery appears throughout the set piece which in my eyes represents the pain jack believes he's inflicted on others like his family. this sequence ends with jack saying sorry to rose telling her he loves her and that things will be all right. he then says to forget about him and wades into the water in a dead on center shot. then it cuts to rose then back to the water where there's a tethered rabbit in the air screeching. I think this last segment of the dream represents some kind of identity death. jacks experiences broke him and now his sense of self no longer exists. the trauma the masking the pretending it consumed him . going back into speculation I think Edd and Molly saw whatever happened to jack. maybe they tried to bring him back like how they came back. unfortunately their father is gone. and what comes back is a identity lacking crazed revenant . its not jack but it comes from him. its trying to recreate its self make some kind of social circle recreation of what he had but its warped because he is warped. he isn't him anymore. through out the rest of the episode this new creature leaves hints of his origins through out the rest of the episode. the choice of attire upon appearing in front of rose for the first time in the cell. " I know where he is Rosemary" "I know where we all are, In wonderland together" "lets ask the kids!" "your work gave me a identity when I needed it most" "it doesn't matter who I was" . all of these lines hint towards my theory. he's not jack but he is made out of what's left of him. he's the rage jack had. he's the creature behind the mask. he's the silent psychotic break . he's what's left after there's no identity left. there's nothing left of that loving father now. only a broken blank slate with a mindless desire to "fix" others the way he was fixed. by losing himself. losing his identity. by being reborn in death.
apologies for any grammatical errors writing isn't my strong suite mostly jus wanting to yap about what i think is goin on
