Moving to Chicago soon what are some essential clothing items to purchase?

Hi! I’m moving to Chicago and this will be my first time experience winter on Midwest level.
What clothing would you recommend helps you stay the warmest?
Specifically what kind of coat/jacket would be best to purchase?
Any other advice is greatly appreciate!
