Who else visited the Achiltibuie Hydroponicum ?

Discussion

The Hydroponicum in Achiltibuie was a very strange place. I visited it, and there were banana trees and all sorts of other strange fruit, that you wouldn't expect from the NW of Scotland.

It was originally so that the Summer Isles Hotel could have fresh fruit & vegetables for their guests, these being difficult to obtain otherwise.

It's long gone now, but occasionally I think about it, especially in the context of schemes to repopulate the Highlands. Cheap fruit & veg, grown locally, would do a lot for the cost of living, no ?

Anyone else ever visit this place ?
