Yuichiro Obana (尾花 由一郎, Obana Yuichirō) is a jujutsu sorcerer from a thousand years ago currently inhabiting a body prepared as a vessel by Kenjaku after being incarnated into the modern era to participate in the Culling Game as a player.

Appearance

1000 years ago, Yuichiro was an elderly man with a tall, lean build and fair skin. His face was lined with wrinkles and featured a prominent X-shaped scar across his forehead. He had black, narrow eyes and thick eyebrows. His grey hair was kept tied back in a dishevelled style behind his head, reaching just beyond his neck, and he had a grey stubble beard. He wore an olive green yukata tied at the waist with a black obi sash and sandals.

Following his incarnation into the modern era, Yuichiro has a much younger appearance. His facial features remain largely unchanged, with him keeping the prominent X-shaped forehead scar, black narrow eyes and thick eyebrows he possessed in his previous life. His hair, on the other hand, is now light brown, cut short and kept shaggy, being tied into a short ponytail at the back and forming sideburns below his ears. He continues to wear an olive green yukata tied at the waist with a black obi sash; however, he now sports black armoured sleeves and shin armour tied with red string, leaving his feet bare.

Personality

Yuichiro is an intensely individualistic and self-assured man who places his own interests and what he personally values above all else. He places great importance on personal independence, believing that an individual should be free to determine their own values, loyalties, and way of life without being bound by the dictates of others. Although generally reserved and detached, Yuichiro is capable of forming strong attachments to people, animals, places and other things that hold personal significance to him, showing considerable loyalty towards whatever he considers his own. His affection is sincere but deeply partial, and he sees nothing contradictory in giving greater consideration to what he cares for than to that which holds no personal significance to him.

During the Heian era, Yuichiro lived largely in isolation, having grown dissatisfied with society and choosing to distance himself from it. He became particularly fond of a herd of deer that frequently grazed near where he lived, enjoying their presence and taking pleasure in watching them. When the younger members of a local clan came across the deer and slaughtered them for sport, Yuichiro mercilessly cut them down without hesitation, considering their deaths a justified response to the destruction of something he had personally come to value.

By the time Kenjaku sought him out, Yuichiro had grown old and was nearing the end of his natural life. Kenjaku had heard of Yuichiro's strength as a sorcerer, but was also intrigued by Yuichiro's deliberate withdrawal from society. He offered Yuichiro the opportunity to become a cursed object and eventually be incarnated into the modern era to participate in the Culling Game as a player. Although Yuichiro accepted death as an inevitable part of life, he was unwilling to allow it to dictate when his ability to determine his own path would come to an end. He therefore accepted Kenjaku's offer, choosing to continue his existence beyond the natural limits of his lifespan rather than allowing death to make that decision for him.
