Happy Independence Day but not all of us are free

While we all go on a patriotism frenzy tonight, just remember that not all of us are free and independent here. I find nothing wrong with the celebrations, but do remember that this is not the Pakistan that Jinnah and his fellows envisioned for us. Some of us in the mainland might think that we are free, because we have been given some sort of liberty, not because that the powers that be are kind and considerate, we have been given this semblance of freedom so that they can terrorise and subjugate people in the peripheries. They have killed Kashmiris and have held sham elections there. They have been killing and disappearing Pashtuns and Balochs for decades now. Just yesterday they bombed a village in Balochistan, killing dozens of innocent people. Yes they are bombing the very land of Pakistan, killing the people of Pakistan. But again it’s Balochistan, and they don’t consider it a part of Pakistan but rather a colony of Pakistan which they control with force and their local collaborators. So until all of us are free, none of us is free.
