Was Gale a closetted Narcissist?

:pin-black:Trilogy Discussion

I know that Gale "loved" Katniss and cared about her in his own way.

But in his and Katniss's final interaction, he says that the only thing he had going for himself was feeding katniss's family and now he can't do that.

I'm sorry, wtf. Prim just died, Katniss is a f*cking wreck, Peeta is a zombie, her mother is ignoring her, Haymitch is drunk, Coin is talking about a spin-off Hunger Games, and there is solid chance that he himself was partly responsible for Prim's death.

And the one thing he's concerned with at that moment is that he's now obviously out of contention for Katniss's love, and he knew that her needing him to take care of his family was the only thing left keeping him in the race. And instead of saying that he was sorry, he decides to fully give up on her and even the idea of her. He has no remorse, regret, guilt or sadness, just that there's no point in feeling any of that for Katniss now that there is no chance of her accepting him.

He's clearly only able to think from his own perspective, lacks empathy, and I think the signs of this are kinda sprinkled all over the trilogy.

I know that Gale hate is very much prevalent and I'm not sharing earth-shattering info here. Just wondering from a narrative standpoint.
