I (25F) am struggling with my LDR with my partner (26M)
Sorry if this is a little long! Also please bear with me, I have a hard time trying to explain myself through text lol
I (25F) have been in a long distance relationship with my partner (26M) for two years. We were together for about a month before we became long distance. I love my partner and am happy to be with him, and I look forward to our future together. We have also have a healthy relationship in that time and have done fun things like take trips together. During our first year, we set a loose plan towards him moving back where I am. However, now that we are going into our second year, our plans have seemed to change more than I thought they would. I am struggling with being long distance for a few reasons:
-
There is no certain time that we will no longer be long distance. I think this is the part I struggle with the most. I do not know how much more of being long distance I can handle. It has been extremely difficult for my partner to miss important events in my life from not being able to travel across the country and the same for me. I am really scared sometimes that I will end up feeling unhappy if we are long distance for a super long time. I do love him a lot and want to be with him long term.

This is my first intimate relationship. I did find myself originally feeling sad often because of feeling like I am missing out on something. I don't feel that way anymore, but I cant help but to feel sad sometimes (I am still super happy for them tho!) when my friends tell me updates like moving in together and having traditional date nights. I really want the things that come with a long term relationship, but the lack of clarity on when we will be together long term again seems to get in the way.

I feel like our communication styles + the time difference sometimes cause issues. We both are not texters, and the 2 hour time difference does not help. I think a big factor also is trying to balance our careers with the relationship and other things in life. I sometimes feel scared that he will ultimately choose his career or his time where he is living now over moving back to be with me. I expected him to get comfortable with living somewhere else for a while! I fear he will not want to move back here and end up not telling me until it is too late. I also tend to go to bed earlier since I am two hours ahead, and sometimes I dont get a call until late at night when I am asleep or falling asleep. I try to give him space to destress after work or do his hobbies, but sometimes I feel incredibly lonely in the relationship.
What can I do to help this feeling? I have had conversations about this with my partner, and they usually are somewhat helpful for a short while, then I get sad again. Has anyone else experienced this or something similar?
