20-year-old student looking for my first credit card to build CIBIL — income/no-income options?
Hey everyone,
I'm 20 and currently a student, and I'm looking to get my **first and only credit card**. My main goal isn't to borrow money or spend unnecessarily — I mainly want to start building my **CIBIL score from scratch** and establish a good credit history early.
I'd use the card for expenses that I already have anyway, mainly things like **fuel, occasional shopping, subscriptions, etc.**, and I'd make sure to pay the **full bill on time every month**.
The situation is:
* I'm 20 and a student.
* I currently don't have a personal income.
* However, if necessary, I may be able to show income/financial support for eligibility.
* I'm looking for **only one card**, not multiple cards.
* I'd prefer something that doesn't require income proof if there's a good option.
* Since I'm getting a card anyway, I'd also like some useful benefits such as cashback/rewards, fuel benefits, etc.
I'm currently considering two approaches:
**Option 1:** Get an FD-backed/secured credit card without income proof and use that to build my CIBIL from zero.
**Option 2:** Try for a regular unsecured credit card by showing income, if there's a genuinely better card that I'm eligible for.
What would you guys recommend for someone in my situation?
Would you go with an FD-backed card and keep it simple, or try for an unsecured card with better rewards/benefits?
Also, if you were starting from zero at 20 and could choose **only ONE card**, which card would you personally pick and why?
Thanks!
