doctor responded to anxiety as "thats just how life is"

Venting

a bit of rant but i had an appointment with my pcp today. i've been struggling with anxiety and mental health thats gotten severely worse over the past 4 months, and my therapist recommended that i talk with my doctor about potentially starting medication. i explained my symptoms and how they've been interfering with my day to day life e.g intrusive/negative thoughts, picking at my nails until they bleed, constant worrying, avoiding social interactions, etc. im pretty sure I failed a class last term because of it but im too afraid to check.

my doctor's response to this was that its just how life is and that she struggled with classes too in medical school and got through it unmedicated. she also said something about how life is neutral and the good and bad things in life even it out (???). she said "if i really want to" she can prescribe something for me but recommended that i transfer schools or live at home despite none of the options being possible for me.

genuinely a slap in the face and i may be overreacting but i cried in my car afterwards. such a humiliating experience that makes me wish i never brought up these issues in the first place. she also made a lot of jokes throughout the appointment, some that left a bad taste such as asking if I have any family history of mental illness to which I responded as not that I know of, and she laughed and said "first one?"
