Advice for getting back into drawing after a long period of time?
So when I was a kid I was SUPER into drawing. At times it felt like one of the only things I was good at. In middle school I would draw in class constantly. I was in 2 different art classes but would still do most of my drawing during my other core classes when I probably supposed to be lol. Then, when I was 13 I made my first Instagram account. I started following a TON of art accounts (I’m currently following 8000 accounts on Instagram and at least 1000 of those are probably art pages). This is also when the pandemic happened, so I finally had tons of time to draw! 😌 But I didn’t spend the pandemic improving my art. Every time I would try, I would feel so inferior compared to other artists my age that I followed online, and I felt like I couldn’t properly convey all the big ideas I had. I lost pretty much all of my motivation to draw. This continued throughout all of high school. I had art classes that I got super involved in, but they were more focused on physical arts like Ceramics and Screen-printing. Rarely ever did I actually draw anymore. Now I’m 20 and during the time I stopped drawing, my skills have dissipated. I want to get back into drawing SO BAD. I have so many ideas and things I want to make, but I need help! I’ve totally forgot how to do anatomy and shading, I still feel inferior to artists my age, and my motivation wains the second I get discouraged. I think part of it is that I’m mad my mediocre art from when I was 12 is better than my art as an adult…😭 Does anyone have advice on how to curb this? Bonus points if you are ADHD or Neurodivergent and can relate to how my silly brain works. 🥲 TYA!!! 💖
I will be cross-posting this on some other Reddit groups as well
