What do outsiders think of the Bronx nowadays?
I know there’s this perception in a lot of people’s minds that the Bronx is this hellish place where the streets are 90% covered in garbage, fast food is the only thing to eat for miles and you might get shot down just for walking. And of course that the air is basically smoke. I’m a New Yorker who lived in the Bronx (Pelham/White Plains) for 7 years, and still goes there a lot (I live in Inwood), including the worst parts like Mott Haven and Hunts Point. It’s really not that bad. Yes it’s poor and has some issues with cleanliness but it’s not some absolute hell like many people think. I never really feel unsafe in the Bronx, not like I carry around cash or anything (I’m not a total idiot) but I feel fine. What do outsiders actually think now? I also know the Bronx used to be much worse than it is, especially after the construction of I-95 that tore down neighborhoods. I’d love to know, I think the Bronx is an underrated borough despite its problems.
