Used £20k budget family car - PHEV or MHEV or Petrol?

Advice

Hi all,

Im torn between options on used family car and I know the standard responses will be to go for estates or saloons but i'm wanting something with decent space but also not too long, so im looking at small to mid size SUVs.

It seems for things like a 2023 Sportage for example - where the depreciation has taken the biggest drop, PHEVs are cheaper than MHEVs. I know they only have 40 or so miles range but that would probably suit me quite well as i do lots of little trips mostly.

I don't think i could jump to full EV purely on the basis that i'm not sure how easy it would be to get a charger installed in this property, I dont have access to the neighbours gardens around me and i'm not sure how it could be cabled through the house from the central cupboard.

I'm wondering if PHEV is worth it if youre only using dumb tariffs or set hourly tariffs - or is it worth just spending more on a pure petrol / mild hybrid engine?

Im mostly looking at either a 2023 or so Karoq or 2023 Sportage for options - i would rather not take any longer cars or estates etc.
