My vacation cruise made me more happier than I normally am online
I haven't been active on social media for five days during my family vacation at the Royal Cruise. The ship has wi-fi, but it requires payment and an account. So for the entire half-week, we had no wi-fi or signal. This would be a nightmare for 10-year-old me; however with how social media has negatively affected my mental health, this felt more like a blessing than a curse to adult me. Truth be told, I had MORE fun on the cruise than I had online. I ate a batch of wonderful food at the Windjammer buffet, physically interacted with other people at the adult-only pool, went to Costa Maya and Cozumel to observe the place's delightful scenery, buildings and stores and to chill out at the pool, I petted dolphins and got to watch a seal preform on stage, and made a little homemade flower box for my Arts & Crafts activity on the cruise, as well as playing family games like Axe Throw. Even when I was in my room, I got to watch shows from my childhood like Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go, Blue's Clues & You!, Bubble Guppies, Paw Patrol, and even new shows like Beep + Mort and Fizzy Suds.
No algorithms to show me negativity or political nonsense, no Ai slop to shove in my face, not even a tint of the mean-spiritedness I usually witness online (and that I'm horribly obsessed with), the people in the adult pool were chill and nice to me. It felt like I entered a different world. I've never felt this happier in my entire life, especially after 2025. I hope this cruise will serve as a lesson for me to minimize my online activity for real human interactions and family games.
