What’s with men’s gym showers?

My local gym has its showers separated with dividers so you can’t see the guy to your immediate left or right, but they don’t have curtains, except for one. My wife says that all of the showers in the women’s have curtains. Is the normal in most places? If so, why? I’m assuming it varies from place to place, but this is all to say that I want curtains in the men’s showers. I just had a workout, I already had to witness a dude vigorously towel drying his balls in front of the mirror, I just don’t want to be seen, or see other people while I’m showering naked.
