my friend talks to my estranged friend every day; is this weird?

hi all!

i have a best friend who i am long distance with. we met when we were teens over the internet, met in person a year after talking and have stayed in contact since! we visit each other a couple times a year, and i know we’ll be lifelong friends and im so grateful to know her.

in high school, you obviously just follow anyone you might have mutual followers with. so, she would follow my friends she’s never met in person before and they would follow back as they knew she was my friend. but, my friends have never met her in person as we’re always busy spending time together, and my friends have their own lives they are busy with.

i had a friend in high school who i was close to, but as we grew into adulthood we drifted apart and ended up stopped talking. nothing happened, just a natural drift. i have tried to reach out here and there to them, but their replies are always short and never extending conversation, so i know we both know we’re cordial but not friends like we once were.

my long distance best friend told me over the weekend that her and my estranged friend talk over instagram dm almost every day. they’ve never met or hung out in person, and my estranged friend moved and doesn’t live in my area anymore, so if they wanted to ever meet, one would have to fully travel to the other rather than all of us meeting up when my long distance friend visits me.

i just found it strange, honestly. when my long distance best friend told me they text every day, i sounded happy and said, “oh wow, i haven’t talked to them in so long!”, which is true. i think i just find it weird as i’ve tried to reach out to my estranged friend and occasionally reconnect and catch up but they don’t seem to be interested, yet they text my best friend they’ve never met every day?

also, there’s no possible flirting/romance going on; my long distance best friend is dating someone they really like, but my estranged friend has told me they’ve had a crush on my best friend (i’ve never told my best friend out of respect for my estranged friend as they asked me to not tell her).

i kind of want to tell my best friend i find it weird they dm every day, but i know that’s awkward and immature. but i do definitely find it weird. any validation or advice on this is greatly appreciated!
