Going to Canada via land?

So everywhere I search tells me that I am able to go through the border with my birth certificate and photo ID (drivers) except for the actual Canadian customs website! I don’t have an enhanced DL nor a passport and won’t be able to get one in time of the trip. Does anyone know if I would be able to and have any experience with this?
