GM LFX V6 stalling at full throttle

Here are the full list of symptoms.

  1. Extended start, which I believe indicates a fuel leak somewhere in the system. I suspect this might be a secondary issue.

  2. Car runs rich and has a fuel smell from the exhaust.

  3. Once the car gets up to temperature and heat soaked the stalling issue presents itself.

  4. Idle is okay, but has more pops and the occasional stumble.

I have datalogged the high pressure fuel rail and the pressure bounces around 2300 psi at all times. EXCEPT for when the stalling occurs and the pressure drops down to 45-70psi. I can watch the desired fuel pressure and it stays around 300-500psi, unless I command a load from the throttle and it goes up accordingly. But regardless of desire fuel pressure it stays at 2300 psi.

I’ve done some web searching in order to try to become familiar with high pressure fuel pumps and I can’t find any resources that talk about the pump failing in a manner that would have constant high pressure.
