Season 2

SpoilerGeneral Discussion

Now that it's done, I can properly review it. I think there were certainly problems, but I also think a lot of people are dooming. I am going to try and give the most practical review I can.

Big thing that I don't see enough people mentioning; Disney forced rewrites after Bo was fired. He had finished writing season two entirely. From what I read, and please correct me if I am wrong, season two was a really messy transition season. Some episodes were totally from Bo's team. Others were completely rewritten. Others were a strange hybrid of the two. I cannot emphasize enough how massive this is and how much this will affect the quality of the season. I think most of season 2s slips were downstream of this issue. Season 3 will be completely written by the new team led and managed by Chauncey. At the very least, it will be more cohesive.

The bad

I agree with the community. The pacing after episode 4 was fucking awful. As much as I like polaris, I don't think her episode added anything and it should have been totally different. I loved the wolverine episode, but it also didn't add anything to the season and I agree that it would have been nice to see wolverine without adamandtium for a while before giving it right back. Those are the only two episodes I have massive problems with.

The show didn't do much with Charles dealing with magnetos death. Literally just the intro of the danger.exe episode and that one sucked.

Massive one here. Season 2 lacked big punch moments and seriousness that season 1 had. This is my biggest criticism by far because I don't think this one is a consequence of transitioning writers, and more of a consequence of writing style. Season 1 was full of these very serious notes. Magneto accepting death on ginosha, Rogue trying to kill that guy, Rogue holding gambit after he died, Scott blowing up on the news lady, storm losing her powers, etc. Even the moments we did get didn't land. Eric dying wasn't super impactful. Honestly, the best serious moment we had in season 2 that had the flavor of season 1 was during morph's monologue at the end of the wolverine episode. Really hope they can fix this.

What I liked

Season 2 had a massive step up in music. The season 2 episode 1 and 2 music is absolutely phenomenal. These are actually my favorite two episodes in the whole show.

The show traded serious notes for cool and positive ones. Etc, jubilees escape, the cut from old cable to young cable at the end of episode 2. Rogue saving gambit.

The 3 things the show must do for season 3

The show must find a balance between the cool and tragic moments. Like I said, I love the cool moments in season 2 and love the seriousness of season 1. The show needs to find a way to marry these two for season 3. No more useless episodes, and I think that's the bulk of it. Thoughts?
