What to think about instead of ruminating/daydreaming

Question about OCD

Hi!

So I was diagnosed with OCD a few months ago, and I’ve been on sertraline since then. A big issue for me is that I often find myself ruminating/maladaptive daydreaming ALL. THE. TIME. Scenarios with people I know, things that have already happened turning out differently, etc. etc. etc. I daydream when I’m driving, when I’m home alone, even between scrolls. It’s gotten to the point that I have physical reactions to my thoughts & experience real emotions based on things that aren’t actually happening.

My question for anyone who has struggled with something similar is: what do you think about instead? Maybe it sounds silly, but my mind has spent SO LONG immediately jumping to daydreams that I don’t know what else to fill my brain with when I’m not actively in conversation or having to focus on a task. Does anyone have any advice for how to curb the habit & what to fill my brain with instead of these scenarios?

Thank you!!! 😁
