Learning Opportunity for a Reduction in Pay?
So I posted approximately two months ago about being let go from the firm I was at due to poor performance and some other issues. Well I am here to report I finally landed a job. Here are the pros/cons
Pros:
- Although my title will be 'Accountant' this is a tax opportunity. I have had little to no experience in tax. I have been in GAAP world. So I view this as an opportunity to learn a new skill.
- Three minute WALK from my house.
Cons:
- Reduction in pay. My pay will be $85,000. Which is like a 42% reduction in pay (you do the math).
- They require in- office: Monday-Friday; 9AM-6PM. I was previously fully remote.
-Its only a tax firm. I am also not sure of the reputation of the firm. Not offering assurance services gives me a bit of a pause (3.8 rating on Google).
This has been my only offer, and I have run through my savings. So I am inclined to take it - to learn tax. But working at a 42% reduction in pay for the next two years is going to be a tough pill to swallow. My wife recommended I take it and continue looking.
