Jackass Best & Last is Undoubtedly a Soulless Cash Grab

I finally watched it last night and holy shit what a stinker. They phoned that shit without any effort or care put into the editing.

Even if it wasn't a full stunt film, they could've at least put in more never-before-seen footage instead of the ones we've already seen. I hate the idea of a greatest hits movie, coz that is streaming platform territory, not for a major motion picture.

They could've added more homages and sentimental moments of them reliving their glory days. I liked the bits of them just talking between sketches, as it showed more depth rather than adding the stunts we've already seen a hundred times.

The new cast was just peanut gallery. If the old heads really couldn't do some stunts, they should've given the new members more to do. Probably afraid of being overshadowed.

The stunts in the film also came off as cynical and mean-spirited. They felt so inauthentic and forced because they thought it was "what everybody asked for". They have completely missed their own point and what made them the best to do this type of medium in the first place.

Just uninspired and the lowest hanging fruit of ideas. "Zack do fat things while do funny prank on Ehren! That's a wrap!"

This movie is just nut shots, electrocutions, and nut shots(Pontius' dick).

The guests were fucking lackluster, although I did enjoy Adam Ray's bit with the robot. This would've been the most opportune moment to bring back past guests and friends because where were Tony Hawk, Matt Hoffman, Tyler the Creator, John Waters, Loomis, Manny, and Butterbean?

Could've brought in some new cool guests too like Robert Irwin for stunts involving animals, Sarah Sherman for gross bits, Charlie Day, Bill Burr, Conan o' Brien, or even freakin' Sami Zayn! Seriously, go all out in this last movie!

HOW I WOULD'VE MADE THE MOVIE

There was a part where Steve-O was talking about the MVPs of each movie and how he hasn't got an MVP moment despite being one of the "gnarliest" dudes in the cast. I would've framed this movie as Steve-O desperately trying to get an MVP moment, which means him facing his own fears, i.e. heights and flying, and writing bits in service of that.

So Jeff and Johnny would set up the stakes of this being the last movie so everyone would "step up" because come on, it's the last fucking movie and Wee-Man is always bitching about stepping up right?

Johnny would take a backseat, settling in on the hosting and pranking duties, Pontius will serve as the jester type since he doesn't really care for the MVP race, and the rest of the old heads would compete with the new cast.

This means more stunts for the movie

Less nostalgia greatest hits bullshit

And a great incentive for the new cast to make their mark.

This also gives Steve-O(as well as the rest of the old heads) his motivation. It's a classic hero storytelling trope.

However, he consistently gets overshadowed by the newer cast throughout, and when it looks like he's about to get his MVP moment(which at this point in the movie is already earned) Ehren swoops in and accidentally gets a moment that nets him the MVP, again.

An alternate ending would be Poopies taking the MVP too. Maybe a stunt involving sharks again.

The "story" and character arc would be the only thing that's loosely scripted, the stunts would still be real.

I just thought that the frame point of Steve-O having a goal would make the movie more cohesive and give the viewers something to look forward to.

FINAL VERDICT

So much potential, wasted because Jeff and co. don't even wanna try anymore. IMO, they already made the greatest tribute/homage movie in Jackass 3. That movie was rich in emotional depth and had more of a reason to exist than this phoned-in slop.

They could've stopped with Jackass Forever and released a greatest hits compilation film on stream.
