tw: unwarranted sexual comments from strangers

i've been on different social media platforms helping both behind the scenes and making content. i've helped people grow significantly and have heard all about the highs and lows of social media and how it affects creators personally. something that has ALWAYS bothered me is how women are treated. for example, a man and woman can make the same content, let's say they both play video games. the woman will be sexualized by her audience and the man will be seen as a funny, maybe even attractive or charming if he's average looking. no matter what content the woman does she WILL be sexualized. comments on her body, maybe even fake posts about her edited in a specific manner if you catch my drift. it is so unbelievably upsetting to me. the reason this hit harder was because i've been posting recently as content creation has interested me after working behind the scenes for so long. i posted a simple post about how i have a secret twitter account where i rant and immediately i had multiple men dming me for my "gooning" account and telling me that my regular twitter account didn't have any material for them.... what??? you see a random woman and feel the need to ask for nsfw content??? i confided in my male content creator friend about it and he simply told me, well if i saw a woman talking about a secret twitter account i also would've assumed she was talking about something a bit more provocative.... maybe i was just too naive and im too innocent but from the male perspective, or just someone who follows accounts that PROMOTE that material it would make sense to make that connection, but it is so sad that regular woman are thus affected when they make a simple comment about having a private twitter account. idk i know there's no way to combat this or overcome it other than not being phased by comments like that but it's just so. sad. so upsetting. my heart goes out to the women that have to deal with unnecessary content and comments about themselves from other people on the internet. will get over it with my cheesecake.
