I need to vent about this with people who understand

BRANT

I’m so tired of this “you’ll never be ready so have a kid anyways”, bullshit. That is horrible advice. I saw a a post about a 25 year old woman who is pregnant with her first and is afraid of her family’s reaction. I’m assuming because she probably doesn’t have a lot of money to support herself let alone a child. So many people kept telling how she should have the baby regardless of what her family thinks.

One person said they had their baby at age 20 and that there’s WIC, and Medicaid and food pantries to help. I got downvoted by saying that food pantries don’t always have enough food for everyone and that because of Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” there are Medicaid work requirements and cuts.

I said people need to be pragmatic and stop acting like every pregnancy is a good thing or blessing. I’m a leftist and I’m in school for social work, I’m also a care coordinator and I work with kids. Most of my job is trying to find resources for low income families. In America we barely have any social safety nets, they’re constantly being cut. My last job was a case manager, and I saw first hand how bad things are in terms of resources for parents. People need to use their heads and realize that having a baby isn’t all rainbows and sunshine. They’re fucking human beings who need food, clothes, shelter, toys and education. If you can’t provide that, then don’t have one. We are not on the right trajectory in this country, especially with our current government.
