Struggling to Adapt to the Army & Considering Behavioral Health

Hey y’all, I’m a 20F in the Army, and I joined about 8 months ago. I’ve been having a really hard time adapting lately. At first, I was doing pretty well. I was able to handle being yelled at during BCT and AIT and didn’t take it too personally.

But recently, I’ve noticed that I’ve become extremely sensitive and emotional. I find myself crying when someone speaks to me in a rude or disrespectful manner, belittles me, or makes me feel stupid. Maybe some of it could be hormones, but I also know that I’ve been struggling mentally. I’ve even started having thoughts of unaliving myself because of how overwhelmed I’ve been feeling.

I’m considering going to Behavioral Health, but I’m nervous and honestly don’t know what to expect. I keep wondering if I’m just being “too sensitive,” and I don’t want to suppress my feelings or ignore these thoughts because I’m scared they’ll only get worse. At the same time, I genuinely do want help.

I’ve struggled with depression in the past, although it went away for a pretty good period of time. Unfortunately, it feels like it has come back, and lately it’s been hitting me pretty hard. Some days I feel like giving up, but I know I need to keep pushing through.
For anyone who has gone through something similar, what was your experience with Behavioral Health like? What should I expect?
