I have to start somewhere right?
Well it took 7 years to finally have 1 loan group paid off! Right after I graduated, I only made 2 regular payments before covid hit and forbearance started. I was not responsible and did not pay anything during forbearance and in those 5 years of no interest accruing. I probably had like 15 low payments here and the in those years. I used to beat myself up about it because I probably would have only had roughly $12k instead of $26k left to pay but I’ve decided that’s not going to help and I need to just be responsible now. If there was no miracle or forgiveness, I was always going to pay my loans though.
After I decided to move back in with my parents, I decided to take my finances seriously. I managed to pay off about $11k in consumer debt with 25% plus interest rates in 8 months on a sadly, low income. Would I have loved to do that faster with a bigger salary? Yes but I’m honestly very proud of myself.
Focusing on my savings now as it’s not at a comfortable place for my standards until I have to switch out of SAVE. When that time comes, 7 more loan groups to go!!!
