From Accounting to Buy-Side: How do you make the jump?
For those who moved from accounting, audit, or corporate finance into private equity, asset management, hedge funds, or family offices, how did you make the jump? I'm curious about a lot of skills from accounting - understanding financial statements, analyzing numbers, working with excel, budgeting, and paying attention to details - seem pretty transferable, but I'm not sure how much they actually matter when applying for buy-side roles. If you made the transition, what helped you the most: learning new technical skills, getting certifications, networking, or simply applying and getting you foot in the door?
