My sister built a shopping app because she was tired of regretting everything she bought

My sister loves shopping. Probably a little too much.

But she told me that most of the time, hitting that “order now” button gives her a sense of satisfaction and a little dopamine hit that is soon replaced by a wave of regret, once she realizes she's short on money before payday.

Or sometimes she thinks, “If I had just left this in my cart for two days, I probably would've realized it wasn't worth the money.”

She figured she couldn't possibly be the only person with that problem.

So instead of telling herself to “just stop shopping,” she decided to build something around it.

She built LUVD.

It's basically a dopamine shopping app without the financial consequences.

You can scroll through products, search for things, see the prices, add things to your wishlist and even go through the whole process of “ordering” them, including tracking your delivery and even tipping your delivery guy.

The catch?

None of it costs you real money.

It's meant to give you some of that fun, satisfying feeling of shopping without actually draining your bank account.

You can also set savings goals and see how much money you're not spending by resisting those impulse purchases. Isn’t that neat?

I honestly thought it was a pretty funny idea when she first told me about it.

But the more I thought about it, the more I wondered if she's actually onto something.

So I'm trying to help her find out.

She launched LUVD on July 27th. It's only been a couple of weeks and she's already gotten a few users, so we're basically starting from almost nothing and seeing how far we can take it.

She is also a perfectionist, so she has already updated it about 3 times already, after spending a couple of months going back and forth with her bf while building it (Claude, that’s who she refers to as her bf now!😂).

She is already working on some additional tweaks as she goes, because she wants to reach the best user experience possible, but first, I'd actually love some brutally honest feedback from people who try it:

-Would you actually use something like this when you're bored?
-Does the concept make sense?
-What would make you come back every day?
-What would make you uninstall it?
-What would you change?

If you have suggestions, we'd genuinely love to hear them and see how we can make LUVD better.

I'm not really looking for people to download it just to be nice to my sister. 😂

If the experiment actually works, we're planning to document what we learn and eventually share the whole process and blueprint for anyone interested in building and launching an app from scratch.

Full disclosure : I'm her brother, so obviously I'm biased. 😂 I'm posting this because I genuinely want to see whether strangers think she's onto something.

LUVD is currently available on Android, with iOS coming soon.

If you want to try it, I'll leave the link below.
