This Exmo Wants to Try Funeral Potatoes and Other 'Mormon Food"

General Discussion

Even though I grew up in the Church with TBM adoptive parents, I've never had 'Mormon food'.

My adoptive parents are TBM but converts. No one on either side of my family is a member or wants to be a member. So, we didn't have any of the stereotypical 'Mormon food'. My parents' roots are from CA, TN, and SD, so we ate food from those areas. And since we didn't go to funerals outside of the family, we never experienced what Mormon funerals or wakes were like. (My mom would go to help dress the deceased women in their temple clothes and/or help with the wake's setup. But once those were done, she'd leave.)

During my twenty-six months living in SLC, I did have fry sauce. And my mom did make green Jell-O, but with cottage cheese, pineapple, and sometimes, 🤮 celery mixed in. But I've never had funeral potatoes. And, maybe oddly, I want to try those and other 'Mormon food'.

Am I a weirdo for wanting to try those? What other 'Mormon food' did I miss out on? And, no, I don't expect any of them to be 'high quality'. I'll eat it unless it's harmful.
