Fine, I guess I’ll also post about the dub…

Anime

Okay so as well all know, Banana Fish finally has a non-AI, actual human dub since it was taken over by Netflix.

This is incredible!

A show loved by so many getting not only more recognition but also many new fans, now being on Netflix but also for those that prefer to watch only dubbed content.

This is especially incredible considering it’s been, what 8 years since the show first came out; getting a dub years later is no common feat… in fact it’s quite rare, especially considering this year isn’t any special anniversary and the show doesn’t have any new content.

Then we take into account the poor choices by Prime when it was under their care, to release an AI dub for the show.

Not only was this something that I don’t recall being done before, so it was experimental, having our show be subjected to this after years of begging for a dub… it’s almost humiliating, and beyond frustrating.

It could have been left like that, but we were able to come together as a fandom to make change and rid our show of Prime’s influence, which was a great effort by our community (proud of us)!

At the same time, we also lost the care Prime provided, honestly good riddance. However, I will admit it was a scary time over the past few weeks not knowing if or when another streaming service would pick Banana Fish up.

With the announcement of Netflix taking Banana Fish under its wing, and providing a fully human dub… I was over the moon!

This is just incredible for us, HOWEVER I have seen many people complaining, comparing, and generally being ungrateful for what was given to us…

Now, of course, everyone had expectations and hopes for what it would sound like, and there is plenty right to be disappointed, but at the end of the day, the fact that we even have this is so rare, why would we continue to be upset?

Yes, there are some lines missing, a few so-so translations, it’s a little awkward at times, perhaps feels a bit rushed, and maybe it could have been done better…

But what we really should focus on is that it was done in the first place!

The voice actors and dubbing team put in effort into giving us something to enjoy, even with its flaws you know? And again, after years of begging only to be given something that might not meet everyone’s expectations, yeah it might be disappointing…

But seriously, it’s not like it’s horrendous? Like it may not be absolutely amazing or perfect but it’s not bad by any means..

What I’m saying is that as fans, we should be grateful to have this opportunity presented to us, and I know MANY of us are! Just a few amongst us hurt souls that continue to negatively nit-pick…

I really don’t mean to sound rude or judgemental of anyone, I am just of the belief that this truly is a win for the fandom at the end of the day 🥰

(Sorry for yapping, if you’ve made it this far here’s a virtual New York hotdog with extra mustard for ya)
