Why do some folks say this shit

I am Mexican and hold a professional position at work. Because I have an accent, people often ask where I am from. More often than I would like, I receive responses like, “Oh, that’s cool. My gardener and housekeeper are Mexican, gracias amigo.” Do people not realize that Mexico has a diverse society with lower, middle, and upper classes, as well as educated professionals like doctors, lawyers, professors, and scientists? It is getting frustrating.
