Choso’s durability is severely underrated imo when people do matchups with him, so I tried to scale it.

i just want to put this out there because last time i didnt i got flamed; I will be interpreting statements in a way that I believe make sense when it comes to this scaling(I will not necessarily do the same for feats shown explicitly or stated explicitly on panel), so yes this is a headcanon. Most character scaling in this community is, so if you dont agree with some chain scaling I make or something i infer from a statement, please just tell me, don’t insult my intelligence.

We can start off his scaling in the shibuya incident arc due to yuji’s fight with eso and kechizu in the death painting arc where eso was capable of taking multiple blows from this version of yuji who should be comparable to a semi grade 1/low grade 1 sorcerer in striking strength. Due to Choso being the strongest of the death paintings, we can directly chainscale off of eso and kechizu and off of the fact that yuji grew leagues stronger by shibuya (due to the 5 black flashes he hit in the death painting arc and goodwill arc), meaning Choso should have the baseline durability of a top tier grade 1, higher than that of nanami’s and kusakabe’s. This can be further boosted with blood meteorite(which he has been shown to keep on during combat through the blood coating his fist for extended periods of time during shibuya) , boosting Choso’s durability to be relative to or even higher than that of hanami’s(yuji’s base punches from goodwill were hurting hanami’s body. she was coughing up blood from his punches. Then again, the effect of boogie woogie wouldve messed up her reinforcement(she was also tanking yuji‘s punches before when todo was still on the sidelines), which is why im saying shibuya choso with blood meteorite and FRSS is relative or slightly superior to hanami in durability instead of being higher than her definitively, even though yuji grew leagues stronger in shibuya and a heavy strike from him did basically nothing but partially crack choso’s blood armour. This still is a very impressive durability feat. He should have the highest registered grade 1 durability in the verse atp. When choso fights kenjaku, he’s already tired and weakened, meaning his ce control would be weaker. Despite this, he was still able to take hits from kenjaku’s reinforced cursed spirits and unguarded blows from kenjaku, who’s even stronger than yuji at this time due to reinforcement. Even after all these blows, he still keeps fighting until uraume physically stops him from doing so via ice.

before i move on, i want to point this out. Choso being damaged by 3 of yuji’s punches is not an anti feat. Any other human sorcerer or curse user who doesnt have a specific gimmick wouldve been taking significant damage from even guarded blows(Awasaka literally had a counter to yuji’s strength). Every other character yuji fights in shibuya is basically a cursed spirit, creatures that have the ability to heal their bodies very quickly using cursed energy. they weren’t tanking yuji’s blows, they were healing before they got exorcised by them. choso technically can heal using cursed energy too but thats for cuts and stab wounds. He can only regenerate blood; thats useless against someone who’s hurting u with blunt force.

By the time choso and yuji fight naoya and yuta, choso got much stronger and improved his reinforcement even more, according to the concept of getting stronger after battle, something yuji, mahito, gojo, megumi and maki have shown. Choso fight yuji and kenjaku in shibuya and then proceeded to spend another 1.5 weeks hunting curses who were visually implied to be from semi grade 1 grade 1 cursed spirits due to the collateral damage they were causing when chasing yuji(one destroyed an entire bridge, with 1 slam. for comparison, the grade 2 curse that yuji and megumi fought in the first episode should be just above wall level since it was able to burst through walls and stuff). Its heavily implied that Choso grew stronger physically, meaning his durability should now be definitively higher than hanami’s at his peak(not his baseline durability tho). The naoya fight also partially upscales his durability; choso was implied to be still healing from his fight against yuji and kenjaku, and despite this, he was still taking blows from naoya and got up relatively unscathed; naoya was speed blitzing choso meaning he wasnt properly reinforcing himself, upscaling his baseline durability again(naoya had projection sorcery active, which meant he was stacking his speed, meaning he was putting more power behind these punches, and choso still tanked it. Naoya was also not “holding back” on choso. naoya said it himself, he made a mistake when fighting choso; he kept stopping when it came to stacking projection sorcery, not because he was toying with him but because he was trying to play it safe. Naoya always moves in a way so that he’s able to counter his opponents in the case that they throw their counter(thats what we see when choso activates FRSS and matches naoya). The naoya that said he made a mistake was a naoya who was going full speed at maki, planning to overwhelm her with speed to prevent her from countering; he had no counters or smart plays in mind which is why he couldnt move out of the way when maki landed her counter. Naoya also points out choso’s durability 2 times, wondering what he is and calling him it; he didnt see him as human, he had no reason to “hold back”. Yuta knocking out choso isnt an anti feat either; 1. it was to the head by a special grade sorcerer; 95% of the verse wouldve been knocked out too. 2. Choso was already fatigued and tired from expelling so much blood and being attacked by naoya. 3. He was literally off guarded, meaning he wasn’t reinforced(choso has taken a full force kick to the head by yuji on shibuya and he was fine soon after).

also want to point out here, Flowing Red Scale (Stack) also is implied to boost durability; during the fight against naoya, Kamo says that if he hadnt blocked naoya’s strike with his blood, he wouldve lost his arm and head.

during the fight against kenjaku, Choso is shown taking hits from kenjaku in base, with him being able to shrug it off after losing an exchange at the start of the fight. This shows relativity to a fatigued FRS Choso’s durability in shibuya, once again upscaling his base durability(even though he had less CE control, considering how much of a jump Kamo’s durability had when fighting naoya and considering how Choso’s refinement is way better than Kamo’s, this should still upscale choso, especially if he’s not using any of his techniques defensively). He’s also shown being able to take attacks from kenjaku’s reinforced cursed spirits which are capable of killing top tier grade 1s according to Kenjaku(though he is heavily injured from this attack, the fact that he survives this and is able to get up after to keep on fighting should show a higher level superiority to the grade 1s atp of time compared to him in shibuya). After Choso awakens and is in FRSS, he is shown taking another attack from reinforced cursed spirits and this time he shrugs it off after dispatching of the curses, continuing the fight against kenjaku. Even after all of this damage he sustains from kenjaku, he reenters the fight to aid yuki. even when he gets hit by a cursed technique reversal anti gravity attack from a kenjaku who is going all out atp(he was about to die, theres no reason for him to be holding back, especially whilst yuki‘s output was returning slowly(if she hit him at a high output again, he wouldve died)), he‘s still able to stay conscious and create an attack in the attempt to distract kenjaku. choso had to be forcefully taken out of the fight.

by the time shinjuku had come around, Sukuna himself stated that everyone’s basic ce reinforcement had slyrocketed, including Choso’s, meaning his durability had become leagues stronger than what is was against kenjaku(sukuna was still in yuji’s body when he met up with choso after the yuki and choso vs kenjaku fight, meaning he wouldve sensed his reinfrocement at ce control at this time). I feel like atp its safe to say choso’s base durability surpassed that of hanami’s durability(hanami took damage to kamo’s piercing blood. Choso tanked a dismantle from sukuna in base). choso was in base for the entirety of shinjuku. he took a dismantle from sukuna and tanked it with little difficulty, and is able to walk through sukuna’s domain amped cleaves to get to yuji after his simple domain broke. Choso did use blood meteorite in this finale; he specifically uses it to block sukuna’s 4th black flash in the black flash chain; due to how recently sukuna landed the 3 other black flashes, the black flash that sukuna hits on choso should be the strongest one of the 4 im the chain due to sukuna having a higher understanding of cursed energy(its also heavily implied that sukuna sat up and locked in to land these black flashes as one cannot land a black flash at will, not even sukuna, meaning he likely survived the strongest full forced black flash from sukuna in the black flash chain, being able to form convergence for Yuji to fire piercing blood, and stay conscious to heal his injuries); maki threw up blood from one of sukuna’s weaker black flashes and she even noticed a huge increase in the output of sukuna’s slashes, once again proving that choso’s black flash was stronger than maki’s(he also wasnt using FRSS in this scene, meaning he wasnt at his peak durability when he took this attack). blood meteorite is also shown blocking yuji from a domain amped binding vow amped high output fuga, which directly hit choso’s blood meteorite shell(this is heavily implied not to be a death binding vow due to the extra panels gege drew of choso’s death where he says he’s risking his life instead of actually sacrificing it, implying he believed there was a small chance he couldve survived instead of being guaranteed to die). This alone is the best durability feat for choso, which leads to my headcanon: blood meteorite’s durability can vary depending on how long you take forming it. in the fight against Yuji, choso’s last second blood armour partially breaks after tanking a full force Blow from yuji; the blood that choso formed around his fist was able to keep form without cracking despite heing put under more pressure and even clashing with yuji’s fist(it even won). This example is consistent when shown in shinjuku too, with sukuna breaking choso’s last second blood armour with his black flash, but choso’s blood meteorite shell is able to keep its structure and form despite being directly hit by the full kinetic force of a bv amped, domain amped, high output fuga, only partially falling apart due to the blood evaporating from the heat. if choso has time to actually form blood meteorite, he should have elite tiers of durability.

statement-wise he’s also relative to the heavy hitters in durability due to him being planned to enter yuta’s domain, implying some relativity to them in terms of keeping up in stats like durabilty. it also implies that choso shouldve able to survive most of sukuna’s attacks if he was in that group

with all this being said, I’d personally rank choso’s base durability to be slightly above jp hakari(pls dont kill me😭). Yes ik abt the gojo blue punch narrative which ppl use to try scale hakari to be relative to yuta, but there is literally 0 context for this statement:

1. we dont know how much gojo is holding back
2. this was in the past so being relative to yuta atp may not have even been that impressive,
3. this clearly came from a base hakari because he wouldnt have vomitted in jackpot. it would only make sense if he was relative to base yuta, which is still highly unlikely since yuta has massive amounts of cursed energy, meaning he’s able to reinforce heavily. jp hakari has also heen shown getting more injured by attacks weaker than the attacks base yuta got hit with(hakari lost his face to a cargo door from a base kashimo(not even mba). Base Yuta got burnt by granite blast from a user with the highest recorded output in history

the statement is too ambiguous and vague and cannot be treated as a reliable feat or part of scaling. thats like saying jogo, a literal glass canon is relative to hakari and yuta in durability because he threw up blood after gojo hits him with countless blue infused punches. besides, jp hakari(he should he more reinforced than his base form) is shown getting bruised by kashimo’s basic strikes and losing his face to a cargo door. Yuta took strikes from ryu, granite blasts and thin ice breakers, stronger attacks than punching, kicking and cargo doors, and he’s relatively ok enough to heal his injuries. Even against uraume, he’s shown taking damage to sharp icicles ramming into his side(taking off part of his torso), whilst choso is tanking dismantles and high outit malevolent shrine cleaves from sukuna. im sorry hakari fans but i genuinely dont see how he’s more durable than choso, imo he gets carried by regeneration)

if we’re talking about peak durability, considering how choso got hit with the strongest black flash in the bf chain and mitigated the damage with last second blood meteorite which is potentially weaker than properly formed blood meteorite(according to my headcanon), Kamo‘s jump in durability is because of FRS, and choso‘s technique is more refined thank kamo’s, he has a stronger version of it, and choso wasnt using FRSS during shinjuku, i genuinely believe(hot take), that his peak durability is relative to that of Maki(maki threw up blood from a weaker black flash. whilst choso had a similar reaction(and received a hole in his stomach), it came from a stronger black flash. also those durability showings are not the best choso can do, so with that being said, i’d likento conclude with this scaling

Base Shinjuku Choso >\~ Jackpot Hakari

FRSS Blood Armour Shinjuku Choso \~ Maki

Choso’s peak durability should be top 8 in the verse if we take his feats and statements into account (Mega Post)(potential hot take)
