Not sure if something should be said to MIL about dog she took in from us (extremely obese)

For context, this dog was about 2 going on 3 when she went next door to my MIL. Her dog ran off bc she had her off leash. 3rd time the doggo did and this time never returned.

The doggo in question was too much for me to handle. She’s a pit bull— so, strong. Even tho she’s on the “smaller” less stocky scale.

It’s been pretty much 12 months since she took her as we were trying to rehome her due to the behavior and other difficulties but she is a good and sweet dog.

Well in this time… 12 months. She went from a normal sized, thinner active dog. To EXTREMELY overweight. She doesn’t even look like the same dog. Her face shape is different, her legs are tiny compared to her huge overweight body. She looks so unhealthy due to overweight and everything. Up close I saw her months ago and said something to my husband… then today I saw her up close again and it’s even worse.

Her other dog was heavier looking too.

She makes her food with human food and this isn’t exercise issues… we couldn’t walk her much and never got large like this. So it’s not activity, it’s she’s straight up eating sooo much she’s literally intensively obese.

Idk what to do about this. My husband has never said anything to her. My SD (her “dog” originally) had made a comment that she feels so bad for the dog now seeing how much weight she put on.

MIL is 70 and generally goes on walks when she feels good and takes dog. But she has auto immune issues and just idk I don’t think she’s taking great care of herself either. But it’s really showing with the dog.

Idk what to do. This dog would now have to go on a serious diet and serious exercise to make a turnaround that she was never at before going there.

Either my husband has a serious talk to her but doubt he will hold his foot down about it

or I say something which I’m sure won’t be perceived well…

or we don’t say anything as she’s “her” dog now and stay out of it…

Again, this dog has tiny looking legs now, face isn’t even normal pit head anymore, looks tiny face and body is very wide, thick, heavy etc. this can’t be healthy for her. This has to open doors for heart disease, early arthritis and many other health issues. I just couldn’t imagine this would have been the result of her taking her and now I wished we kept her or found her a different home ourselves but pits are hard to rehome.

So any advice or suggestions?!??
