Total career compensation, is it worth it?
Currently going through a union apprenticeship program (our local is RTW, so the pay is significantly lower than the industry standard). Once I turn-out, I’ve been told by our PM that I’d have an almost 100% chance of landing PE right out the gate with at least one other company, due to already having a bachelors degree (even though it has nothing to do with (construction/management) while also having 5 years of field experience. My question is… if I were to stay in this field, my end goal would be to hit PM, but would the total comp even be worth it versus another career path that I’m equally as interested in (accounting) since I can get the degree within a year due to previous college credits (also free due to union benefits since I’ll continue paying my dues).
Basically what I’m asking is, which career path has a higher REALISTIC ceiling in terms of compensation.
