Stick with this job or quit?

I (29F) recently got hired at this small pizza shop. I recently graduated with my PhD for a few months and lost my stipend about a year ago (funding was lost because of govt and budget cuts) so I’ve gone nearly a year without an income. Its tough finding a job, and its also been tough finding postdocs where funding is available. I’ve been told to apply for fellowships but those take months to hear back and I have bills to pay. I’ve literally been trying to apply everywhere but the only place willing to hire me is this pizza shop.

It’s a family owned business and the owner is nice….but the ethics behind this place is questionable. For one, I found out after getting hired that they’re only paying $7/hr. The job posting online said it was $15 aka our minimum wage. Second, he has a 15 year old working 42 hours this week. I looked up our state laws and he’s not allowed to work more than 18 hours a week, with a maximum of 3 hours a day while school is in session. To be fair, this isn’t his regular schedule but he still works at least 20 something hours with a couple of 8-10 hour shifts during the week (I saw their schedule for the past month on the wall). Apparently they have a huge turnover and I get why now.

I’m just confused on what to do. I need money, like literally any kind of money, but I also want to maintain my dignity. Getting paid well below minimum wage when I’m busting my ass is literally rock bottom. It’s an okay job and not terrible but it’s definitely a lot for $7. Especially because there’s a lot of heavy lifting and I’m not the strongest. Or tallest and I have to reach up pretty high shelves for stuff. I also just don’t feel comfortable working for someone who’s perfectly okay with disobeying something serious like child labor laws. But I also need the money…bad. I’ve already blown through my savings paying for bills for the past year, and I have student loans coming up. What do I do? Keep the job until I get a better one, or quit?
