My best friend started acting completely insane after getting engaged 💍

Hello Reddit,

I have made the story 3 part including update. Grab your popcorn cause this is interessting

Part 1

Throwaway because some people involved use Reddit. All names are fake.

I'm 31F and I'll call myself Mia. My best friend is 31F and I'll call her Jessie.

Jessie and I had been best friends for 12 years. And I mean BEST friends. We met when we were 21 and basically never separated after that. We traveled together, celebrated birthdays together, helped each other through breakups and family problems, all of it.

If someone asked me who my sister was, I probably would have said Jessie.

So when she got engaged to Liam after four years together, I was genuinely so happy for her.

She called me crying. “MIA. I'M ENGAGED!!!”I started screaming too..

Then she said, “You're going to be my maid of honor, right?” Obviously I said yes.

At first, everything was great. We spent hours looking at dresses, flowers, venues, invitations, everything. She had a very specific vision for the wedding. Ivory, champagne, dusty pink and gold. Honestly, it was going to look beautiful.

Then things started getting... weird.

The bridesmaid dresses were around $400 each. One of the bridesmaids told Jessie she couldn't afford it.

Jessie literally said, “If you really want to be there, you'll figure it out.”I remember looking at her like 😳

I privately told her I thought that was a bit harsh.

She said, “Mia, you're supposed to support me.”

Then she created a group chat for all the bridesmaids. At first it was normal.

Then she started telling everyone not to change their hair before the wedding.

Then no fake tans.

Then she wanted everyone to wear a specific nail color.

Then one morning she asked everyone what they had eaten the day before.

Nina literally replied, “Are we seriously reporting our meals now? ”

Jessie said she just wanted everyone to “look their best in pictures.”

I messaged Jessie privately and said she was taking things too far. She got offended.

“You're not supporting me.”

That sentence became her favorite sentence.

Every time I disagreed with her, I wasn't supportive.

Then came the seating chart.

And Oh. My. God.

She had a whole list of people who weren't allowed to sit together.

Her aunt couldn't sit near her mother.

Two cousins couldn't sit near each other because they'd had an argument years ago.

One of Liam's friends couldn't sit near the dance floor because apparently he was “too loud.”

Then Jessie told me she didn't want liam's grandmother sitting in the front row.

I asked her, “Why?”She said, “She doesn't photograph well.”I actually thought she was joking. I said, “Jessie... that's his grandmother.”

She said, “I know.” I said, “Then why can't she sit in the front?” She said, “Because I don't want her ruining the pictures.”

I was honestly speechless.

Then things started getting worse between Jessie and Liam.

One night she called me crying because Liam wouldn't tell his mother that she couldn't bring another guest. I said, “Well... it's his wedding too.”

Silence. Then she said, “You're starting to sound like everyone else.”I asked what that meant.

She hung up.

The next morning she texted me:

“Maybe you need to decide whether you're actually my maid of honor or not.”

I apologized.Again.

Looking back, I really don't know why I kept apologizing.

Then came the bachelorette party.

I planned a nice weekend. Hotel, dinner, spa, drinks, matching pajamas. Nothing crazy.

Jessie hated it.She wanted a private villa, a boat, a photographer and basically a celebrity-style weekend.

I reminded her about the budget we'd agreed on.

She said, “It's once in my life.”I said, “I know, but everyone can't afford that.”

She said: “Then maybe they shouldn't come.”

Three bridesmaids dropped out.

Jessie blamed me.“You're the maid of honor. You're supposed to keep everyone together.”

I told her I couldn't force grown women to spend thousands of dollars.

She didn't speak to me for two days. Then acted like nothing happened.

By this point I was exhausted, but I still loved her.

Or maybe I loved who she used to be.

Then, about a week before the wedding, she called me crying.

She said, “I don't even know if I want to marry Liam anymore.”

I asked why. She said he didn't understand how important the wedding was.

I asked her, “Do you mean the wedding or the marriage?”She got angry.

“You've been weird ever since I got engaged.”

I told her I wasn't jealous. I was genuinely happy for her. She said, “Then act like it.”

A few days later, she asked me to meet her privately.

She handed me an envelope.

Inside was a list of people who weren't allowed to give speeches at the wedding.

Her uncle. Liam's best friend.Liam's sister.

And Liam's mother. I then asked, “Why can't his mother speak?”She said, “Because she always makes everything about herself.”

I said, “She's his mother.”She said, “I don't care.”

I told her I wasn't going to tell his family they couldn't speak. She said, “Then you're not doing your job.”

Something in me finally snapped.I said, “Jessie, this isn't a photoshoot. These are real people.”

She stared at me.Then she said:“Get the F\*\*\* Out!!I thought she meant leave the room.

She didn't.She told me I was no longer her maid of honor.

After 12 years.Just like that.I went home crying.

Then, around midnight, Liam called me.

He said, “Please come tomorrow.”I said, “I'm not invited.”He said, “I know.”I asked why.

He just said:“Because I need someone there who actually knows me.”And that's when I realized the wedding was about to be a complete disaster.

PART 2 is where the wedding day starts... and somehow it gets even crazier. 💀

PART 2 — The wedding ring disappeared and Jessie accused me 💍😳

So after Liam called me at midnight, I barely slept.I wasn't even sure if I should go.

But I had known Liam for years too. And despite everything, I still cared about Jessie.

So I went. Not as maid of honor. Not even as part of the bridal party.

Just as a guest. When Jessie saw me, she looked furious.

She walked straight over. “What are you doing here?”

I said, Liam invited me.”

She just stared at me.Then she turned around and walked away.

I thought, okay... at least she didn't make a scene.

I was very WRONG.

About an hour before the ceremony, one of the bridesmaids came running toward me.

She looked terrified. She said, “Jessie is looking for you.”

I asked why?She said:“Her wedding ring is missing.”

Apparently nobody could find it.Everyone was running around looking for it.

Jessie was completely freaking out.

She accused the photographer. Then the makeup artist. Then one of the bridesmaids.

Then she came to me.She looked straight at me and said:“You were the last person who knew where I put it.”

I said, “Are you accusing me of stealing your wedding ring?”She said, “I'm just asking.”I said, “No, you're accusing me.”She started crying.

Liam came over and looked exhausted. He said, “Jessie, check your purse.”She said, “I already did.”He said, “Check again.”She opened her purse.

The ring was inside.

😐

She had put it there herself.Everyone went completely silent. I waited for an apology. Anything...

She just said:“Okay. Found it.”And walked away.

No apology.Nothing.At that point I honestly wanted to leave.

But then the ceremony started. And weirdly enough, it was beautiful.

Liam cried when he saw her.Her parents were crying.Everyone was emotional.

For about twenty minutes, I thought maybe everything was going to be okay.

Then we got to the reception.

Jessie had given the DJ strict instructions.

Nobody was allowed to request songs.

Her grandmother asked for one song.

The DJ said no.

She went to Jessie and asked politely.Jessie said no. Liam overheard.

He came over.“It's one song.”Jessie said, “No.”

He asked again. She said, “I said no.”

Liam walked away.

Then his mother approached Jessie. She said, “This is getting ridiculous.”Jessie said, “Don't start YOU B\*\*\*!!

His mother said, “You've embarrassed our family all day.”

Jessie looked at her and said: Then you can F\*\*\*\*\* LEAVE!!!

I swear the entire table went silent. Liam heard it.He followed his mother outside.

Jessie just stood there like nothing had happened.

Five minutes passed.Ten minutes. Then Liam came back.

He looked at Jessie.“We need to talk NOW!She said, “Not now.” He looked back at her angerliy and said :“Now.”

They went outside.Nobody knew what was happening. Then Jessie came back inside crying.

She walked straight to the microphone.Everyone went quiet. She said:

“I know tonight hasn't gone exactly how I planned.”I remember thinking, Understatement of the century. Then she started thanking people.

I thought maybe she was going to calm down.

Then she looked directly at me.And said:“Especially the people who stayed, even when they were difficult.”

I knew exactly what she meant.Me.I sat there for a few seconds.Then I got up and left.I didn't scream.I didn't argue.I didn't ruin her wedding.I just left.I cried the entire way home.

Then three days later, Liam called me.

And this is where I found out things I had NEVER known. He told me he and Jessie were already having serious problems.

Then he told me something that shocked me.

The wedding wasn't even originally supposed to happen on that date.

Jessie had moved the wedding forward because her cousin had announced her own wedding date.Apparently Jessie didn't want her cousin getting married first.

I thought he was joking.He wasn't.

Then he told me the wedding wasn't even mostly paid for by Jessie. Her parents had paid for a huge part of it.She had also taken on a lot of debt without properly telling Liam..

I couldn't believe it.

Then Liam said something that made me feel horrible. He said:“I should have listened to you months ago.”

I didn't know what to say.

A few weeks later, Liam moved out.

And then Jessie called me.I didn't answer. She called again. And again. Then she sent me a long message saying she missed me and needed her best friend.

And honestly?That hurt.Because I missed her too.But I didn't miss the person she'd become.

I missed my old best friend.

And then she sent me one more message.

“We need to talk.”And I had no idea what she was about to tell me.

PART 3 is the update, because this is where I found out the real reason Jessie behaved the way she did. 😳

PART 3 — UPDATE: I finally found out what was really going on

Okay, so this is the update.

A lot happened after the wedding.I didn't speak to Jessie for a while.

Liam and I stayed in contact, but I tried not to get involved because honestly, I was exhausted.

Then one evening Jessie called me.

I ignored it.She called again.I ignored that too.

Then she sent me a message saying:“Please. Just talk to me.”

I stared at it for ages.Eventually I agreed. We met at a café.And honestly, I expected her to blame me.

I expected:“You ruined my wedding.”“You weren't supportive.”“Everyone was against me.”

Instead, she started crying.

She said:“I don't know what happened to me.”

I didn't say anything. She told me she'd been under an insane amount of pressure.

Her parents were constantly asking about the wedding. She had become obsessed with everything being perfect.

She said she'd been comparing herself to other brides online and felt like her wedding wasn't good enough.

Then she admitted something else. She had been comparing herself to her cousin for years.

The same cousin whose wedding date she had moved hers ahead of.

She said she felt like everyone around her was “doing better.”

Better jobs.Better houses.Better relationships.

And when she got engaged, she decided the wedding had to prove that she was doing well too.

That's when I understood.It wasn't really about flowers.Or dresses.Or the speeches.Or the pictures.She was trying to prove something.

But that still didn't excuse how she treated everyone.

I told her that.She cried.She said:“I know.”Then she apologized.Properly.

Not “sorry you feel that way.”Not “I was stressed.”She actually apologized.

She said she was sorry for accusing me of stealing the ring. She was sorry for removing me as maid of honor. She was sorry for how she treated the bridesmaids.

She was sorry for the things she said about Liams family.

And she said:“I know I can't expect you to forgive me just because I'm sorry.”That part actually meant something to me.I told her I forgave her.

But forgiveness doesn't mean everything goes back to how it was.

We're not best friends anymore.We talk occasionally.We're polite.But it's different.

And honestly, I think that's okay.

Liam and Jessie eventually separated. They didn't stay married very long.I won't go into all their personal details because that's their business.

But I will say that the wedding definitely wasn't the beginning of their problems. It just brought everything to the surface.

As for me, I'm still sad about the friendship.

Twelve years is a long time.

You don't just wake up one day and stop caring about someone.

Sometimes I'll see an old photo of us and think, “That's my girl.”And then I remember that we're not those people anymore.I think that's the hardest part. Not losing the friendship.Losing the version of the friendship that I thought would last forever.

Would I ever be friends with Jessie again Honestly, I don't know.Maybe someday. But if we ever are, it won't be the same friendship.

And maybe that's okay too.I've learned that sometimes you can love someone, forgive them, and still keep your distance.

And if there's one thing I learned from all of this, it's this:

A wedding can be one of the most important days of your life, but it's still just one day.

Don't destroy years of relationships trying to make one day look perfect.

Because at the end of the day, the flowers die, the cake gets eaten, the decorations come down...But the way you treated people?People remember that.

Anyway, that's my Bridezilla story. 😭💀
