The Pick Me Crisis In Indian Colleges.
I have a best friend in GNLU, who has been struggling since the first month she's been there. Every semester there's a new drama and it's all by the students and spread around by themselves. Now I'm from a reputed college myself and these things do happen but these rumours keep getting worse and situations arise out of these things. The environment is highly apathetic, In my college, if you're struggling and decide to reach out then you will be provided support with not just one but maybe 4 more people. In that fuckass college apparently even after people have tried to reach out, the environment is so apathetic that the most you'll get out of ONE person who by god's grace checked up is- "hope you get through this" She has been made to feel unsafe in a lot of instances not just by seniors and other higher studies students their but also batchmates and the worst part is by her own (used to be) friends too. When things get this bad and you hear stuff from different colleges like me, you just question, if people at law school were born to be complete assholes it's their set out path to be so. And it's not 3-4 years but 5. Living in such an environment with such a lack of a support system for 5 Years must make you hate each day as soon as you wake up. Girls don't take other girls'sides even when they're friends. You have to be careful about every SINGLE word, you say because God knows that will be held to question later on and they will come for you later and they WILL NOT BE KIND! I heard of an instance where this girl told her friend that she doesn't feel safe around her male friend and then that very friend made this poor friend talk to the guy when she was very adamant that she does not want to do so because she's just that uncomfortable with him around. That didn't stop this friend because this asshole of a friend thought "my friend who's a dickhead to everybody but me cannot hurt her at all, so I'll forcefully do the lord's work" Even after the college has faced public allegations of rape, sexual harrasment and queerphobia, it doesn't seem to be doing any better and women to this day feel unsafe on a day to day basis, they have to shrug of so much stuff done by men AND women (mostly their own friends) to be sane in that college. All I can say and hope is- Young women, DO BETTER. Male validation must feel like the epitome of your social life right now, but it will bite back. Be Kind and look out for other women and consider and believe them. If you do come from a privileged background, it still doesn't get much to have some empathy towards another human being, I know it's the most to ask of a law college but things can get better.
