Southwest: Choice or Basic when booking with points?

I have quite a few RR points but have not flown on Southwest since they started the assigned seating.

I did book a one-way flight for November earlier this week, using RR points. I booked the Choice fare and decided to pay for an extra legroom seat (2A).

However, the more I thought about it, figured I might have been better off just buying the Basic fare, using fewer RR points, and paying extra for the extra legroom seat.

Those of you have have studied the options...your insight? Thanks.
