Dry Fly Rod
I’m interested in getting a dedicated small dry fly rod (meaning a rod for throwing small dries, not a short small rod) for bigger water. I currently have a 6wt Sage X (my all around rod), Sage Foundation in a 5wt (all around as well, mostly nymph) and a small 7.5 foot 4wt Sage ZLT for small creek dries.
I’ve been looking into rods like the R8 classic, or the Loomis NRX+ LP. These rods are slower action and made specifically for finesse (at least that’s my understanding). I’m curious on what size I should get considering the rods are already built for these applications. If I got a normal rod (R8 core, for example) I’d probably get a 4wt, but with these slower rods, should I get a 5? My biggest concern is fighting wind on bigger rivers like the Snake, Green, and other western waters.
Any advice or pointers? Thanks all
