When you think about it, we’re all just products of our environment and society, so there’s no real individuality. What you think makes up who you are, your memories, your relationships, your environment, none of that is truly your own and borrowed from somewhere else. Whenever you try to think differently, it only alienates you from fitting within the confines of society’s conventions and makes things worse for yourself. The key to true success in life is to conform. Your worth depends on others, but those others are worthless too as no one is truly an individual nor has your best interest in mind, so you’re stuck in a pointless cycle where nothing actually matters. We assign meaning arbitrarily… but it’s not arbitrary. The meaning we assign is structured to help others around you. In other words: society believes that the right thing is to help people around you as that then builds up society. Society is narcissistic. In the end we choose to conform to a society that values serving itself. Or, we could go about changing society for the better.

That said, Junko would agree that society’s meaning is arbitrary, but then assign meaning to despair. That’s where she looses me, I wouldn’t agree with that because I am not a masochist. I don’t know if that’s the most liberating outcome either. Liberation and individuality is an illusion, finding solace in despair won’t fix that.
