Dealing with a toxic and alcoholic father, what can I do?
Assalamu Alaikum. I am a sister that has been dealing with my toxic father who is addicted to drinking alcohol and smoking. Its nothing recent and he’s been doing it since before he got married. Its been affecting my family so much because he always drinks at night and it’s usually when he's most aggressive. He always calls me to his room to chat with me about his life problems or about why me and my brother are constantly fig. He never talks to us willingly throughout the day and it’s only at night because he drinks after Isha. He also spills a lot about how he feels and things he would never tell us if he were sober such as marrying another woman and how disappointed he is in us. I’m so done with him because his drinking problem has caused so many issues. I can’t even have friends over past Isha because I dont want them to see my dad drunk because its very obvious like he can’t even walk straight and his words slur. Many times we went out to weddings he some how got drunk there even though its only muslims but he snuck it I guess. Sometimes he drives under the influence back from these events but Alhamduillah since I got my license I always drive back. He hates when we address this problem and says it’s his issue why do we worry about it or he will quit soon and hes trying. My dad is also VERY stubborn and will not be proven wrong in any situation even if he is. He also does not allow me to speak at all when Im trying to negotiate or else he gets physical and just yells. A lot of his friends knows he drinks and smokes but he doesn’t care or try to hide it he even had some friends come over to drink/smoke.
I don’t know what to do anymore because Ive tried my best to advise him but he refuses to listen. He can go a whole month in ramadan without alcohol smoking or even coffee, but can’t quit for the rest of his life. What do I even do in this situation?? When he calls me to pray I even feel guilty because I know of the hadith that his prayers aren’t accepted for 40 days. Please make Dua for me because things are very bad in our family because of him. Jazak’Allahu Khairan.
