Career change from plant biotech — looking for advice
Hi everyone,
I have a Master’s in Plant Science and have been working in nonprofit plant biotechnology for almost 3 years. I enjoy the research and technical side of my work, but I’m considering alternative career paths.
I’m wondering if I need a PhD for good career growth, or if I can transition into other fields with my MS + experience. I’m particularly interested in biotech patent agent/attonery etc.
I enjoy reading scientific papers, writing, analyzing technical information. I don’t particularly enjoy a highly social work environment, but I’m comfortable communicating with clients when needed.
For those who have made a similar transition:
- What career paths would you recommend?
- Is a PhD necessary?
- How realistic is it to transition into biotech patent work with an MS?
- How long does it take to become established in this field?
- How much you will be earning and current job market?
Would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences!
