woke up expecting a half-finished print and it was just...done???

home improvement

I'm the kind of person who'll spend an entire Saturday messing with a mechanical keyboard or reorganizing my home server, but somehow 3D printing always felt like one hobby too many.

I wanted the stuff you can make with a printer. I just didn't really want the printer itself to become another project I had to constantly troubleshoot.

Ended up getting creality sparkx i7 about a month ago and so far I've mostly been making boring useful things, plus way too many inserts for my board games. I'm currently redoing the storage for one of my bigger games and a few of the trays take 10+ hours each.

Last night I started one before bed with a roll of black PLA that was getting pretty low. I had no idea if there was enough left and technically I could've weighed the spool and done the math, but... no thanks lol.

I threw another roll of the same PLA into the CFS mini and went to sleep.

checked it this morning fully expecting either a finished tray or some kind of mess. Turns out the first spool ran out overnight, it switched over to the second one on its own, and the print was just sitting there finished.

I knew autofill was a feature when I bought it, but this was the first time I actually appreciated it.

I already have a few nearly empty spools sitting under my desk, so being able to just use them up without trying to guess whether there's enough filament left is probably going to save me a lot of unnecessary hoarding.

One less thing to babysit. I'll take it.
