Mirroring success or naturally inclined?

I've been studying narcissistic personality disorder(NPD) and have noticed slight distinctions between those that are naturally inclined to NPD, and those that are mirroring NPD because they are brainwashed to mirror the image of success, which is not actually NPD, though the personality may present itself as such.

I know this could be splitting hairs, or just seem to be recycling the nature vs nurture debate, but it's kind of important for me to understand this fully. I think there's a different path to therapy for both and am wondering if anyone knows of any studies related directly to this?
