Need advice for Mage

Gladly accepting any and all tips and advice on building a DPS mage. Does that even exist? If so what stats do I prioritize as well as what's the best equipment and do I use a staff or magic device? Never built one so I am completely clueless.. Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thxs
