Is buying fireworks outside Chicago actually cheaper?

I’ve always wondered if it’s worth driving outside Chicago to buy fireworks or if the price difference isn’t really noticeable.

Some friends told me that stores in Indiana usually have more variety because of the different regulations and larger fireworks markets. They mentioned places near Hammond and Michigan City where people go before big celebrations.

For anyone who has experience buying fireworks in the area, what was your experience? Did you save money, find better products, or was it basically the same as buying closer to home?

Would love to hear recommendations from people who have actually visited these stores.
