Skilled Worker Visa - Swapping the Main applicant
My partner and I are almost 2 years into their Skilled Worker visa (I'm the dependant), with 1 year left on our current grant.
Their employer has been hit hard by the US-Iran conflict fallout and is planning layoffs, their team may be at risk.
Good news on my side: my own employer might be willing to sponsor me directly, which would give us a backup plan.
For my partner though, we're wondering if switching to a Global Talent visa makes sense given their recent achievements, and whether that would let them keep their existing clock toward settlement instead of resetting it.
The problem is my clock: it seems like it only keeps running if I stay on a route linked to theirs (or if they get a new sponsored job, which is unlikely in their field right now).
If they do successfully switch to Global Talent before any layoff happens, would it make sense for me to move onto that visa as the dependant too, so my clock stays intact?
Also, does anyone know current processing times for switching from Skilled Worker to Global Talent from inside the UK?
TLDR; Partner may face layoffs, considering Global Talent visa switch to protect their ILR clock. Wondering if I should join as dependant to protect mine too, and what current in-country switching times look like.
