The watermark is a clever idea but it will never work in the real world
Because there is no way any model of any ability will be able to meet the needs of the user and hit the watermark keywords without adding nonsense or filler.
It must be in effect now because I have seen a significant decline in performance for all Anthropic models. Especially for technical writing.
Word choice is key and my audience will jump at the first sign of ambiguity or incorrectness. And up until recently, I’ve been able to get this done 100 percent with Claude. Now it is impossible. I’ve been going in circles for days with editing.
Now? I get word salads. Pointless sentences to nowhere that aren’t true. And pointlessly hyphenated word-pairs. (See what I did?) I spend more time editing than I do writing. It’s stupid.
It’ll never work. It can’t work. Unless you don’t read, watermarking will never work.
And this is also why lawmakers need to keep their grubby hands out of technology.
