Would a D&D group be able to go against themselves?

This is a hypothetica, but if a D&D party went up against NPC’s with their exact stats (not mirrored, just copied so if Player A loses 10HP the clone doesn’t), and if the DM is good enough the clones copy their fighting styles, would it be a perfect match?
